GLITTER mouse pad and garland Tutorial!

Glitter is everywhere right now! I am a big fan of it! I have been looking for a new mouse pad for about a month now and didn't find one that I loved. Then I saw some homemade ones on my pinterest board here and here. I liked the idea of using materials I already owned! So my love for mod podge was the winner again!

Materials needed:
Mod Podge (I used Glossy for more shine!)
glitter (mine was $1.99 at Michaels)
a brush
Cork board (I used a round cork board that I had for absorbing water for my plants.) You can cut a piece to your liking. square. rectangle. circle. oval. I liked using my planter cork board because it was thick!

First step: put a even layer of Mod Podge down on the cork.

Sprinkle a heavy layer of glitter everywhere on top.

I let it dry for over 2 hours. Then I put 2 top coats of Mod Podge on it to seal it! Allow full amount of time to dry in between layers. It is ready to use as soon as it isn't tacky! EASY!!!!

I liked doing 2 layers of Mod Podge, so it would be more smooth!

Finished Glitter Mouse Pad! I think it looks Fab. Glitter. Red. Sparkles. PERFECTION.

Next, I made some glitter garland! I love all of the banner garland that is everywhere. I am pretty sure I have 4-5 of these in my house! Addicting.

Materials needed:
Glitter Scrap paper (I used cardstock from Hobby Lobby)
Scissors
Ribbon
double sided tape
cardboard/or something to make the stencil

my paper!

I took some cardboard and made a stencil. I just free handed it. I traced out all of my garland pieces before cutting.

After cutting the shapes out, I folded them in half.

I found some old rose ribbon to use! I think it is fun and vintage like!

I used double sided tape on the card stock to hold it in place.

When making the garland, I chose to make 5 of them. I like using odd numbers.

Finished product. I wanted to hang it on a mirror on our mantle.

So cute!!!! Love it!

LOCK LOVE WEDNESDAY

I started Lock Lock Wednesday to get myself motivated to style my hair everyday. It is so easy, for even hair stylists to get in a rut with their hair. I am hoping to inspire you along the way with simple and fun techniques to help you look fabulous! Join me along the way. It will be fun! All you have to do is take snapshots of your hair during the week and link up with me below!

I used a 1/2" curling iron in this picture. I curled my hair in two sections. The key is to curl your hair away from your face. I always hold the curling iron vertical and I don't curl my ends. Leave them out of the curl wand. I twisted my fringe and put a bobby pin in! I wear a lot of flowers to dress it up. This is a purple flower with from H&M.

This is one of the easiest way to fancy up your updos. I love this alternative to a pony. I back combed my crown area with a Teasing U brush that Tala carries. I then took 3 sections at the nape of my neck and simply twisted my hair in knots and used bobby pins to hold in place. EASY. I don't have much length to work with yet, so if you have longer hair it is easier.

Here is another angle of my updo!

I liked this side better. I went with it. Even if it doesn't work out perfect--Go with it. The best part is that my hair is off my face for the day. Great for work and being a mom.

In this look, I back combed again and just did a quick twist. I stuck a big clip in and a couple bobby pins. It took literally 3 minutes. The key is having day old hair. I only wash my hair every 3 days. I am a big fan of dry shampoo and baby powder. My hair was 3 days old here-so It worked amazing. If you have never skipped a day of washing your hair, try going a day and a half to start.

I love this shot for many reasons.
1. attitude from toddler
2. pearls.
3. matching curly hair.
We had a photo shoot this past week for Zakiyah's 6 month. So I curled my hair in 3 sections and roughed it up with texture spray by Awapuhi that I sell at Tala. I always prep my hair with hair spray before curling. (Spray-Comb-Curl) is the trick! I left my hair down! I just back combed the crown after!

Here I had curls in from the day before! I just pinned up my hair with a couple of bobby pins to give it volume and control. I used my dry shampoo from Eufora and hair spray from Awapuhi.

I wore my hair down here. My hair was freshly washed. I air dryed it. After it was dry, I curled some random pieces with a curling iron. I had Moroccan Oil in and leave in spray. I used hair spray. I got my hair colored this day, FINALLY! I love the texture my hair has after I color it. Did you know that it actually swells the cuticle making it feel more thick? fun fact!

i create

I have been really annoyed with our lack of a "system" for the girls to have their hair pretties in a nice arrangement. Easy to see and grab. We have tried random things I owned, but none made me happy. So this past week I took a old frame that was in my storage room and wrapped twine around it going both directions.

twine I used.

the frame and twine.

the finished product.

I decided to hang in the bathroom next to Kiyah and Zion's room above the towel rod. Perfect spot, considering they have baths etc in here. Here is a before shot below.

and after! Doesn't it look awesome. Someday I will get rid of the boring beige on the walls.

Some of the hair pretties were hanging over this bowl on the counter. ugly.

After Shot of the clean counter! AMEN.

I have an obsession with trays in pretty much every room in our house. Here is my bathroom tray.

I got it at TJ MAXX and have kleenex, q tips/cotton balls in the stainless steel containers from Target. I have foot and hand cream. a clock from Hobby Lobby. and the candle. This bathroom gets used for guests too. So I like to have items for them to use.

Pix of the pretties in their glory. I used mini clothespins from Michaels.

More change..I added some new art and pix in the girls rooms. I have photo collages/galleries in many spots in our house. In Zakiyah's room, I hung her t shirt stretched art with her pictures above the crib. The art says, "we look out for each other" with a big lion and little lion. aka Zi and Ki!

I also updated pictures in the frames. The photography is done by friends of ours. LOVE.

Some pictures of the sister love. Kiyah was 7 days old in these. Precious.

Kiyah was hanging out when I was taking these! Hi bubbas.

Back in December, Zion made this painting with Aunt Katie for Zakiyah's room. We love it. I finally hung it up.

How cute is the little rocking horse? I got it as a baby gift from my dear friend, Marissa. It is so special.

In Zion's room we added her art work that she painted in the top left. It is in a vintage frame from my Grandma Cherie. I love it. Zion is amazing at art. just sayin' We also hung up the Barney loop art from Christmas. Zion is obsessed with Barney and that stinkin song. But, it is so cute when she runs up to us and hugs and kisses us with the song. It can't get any cuter.

I have really enjoyed decorating their rooms. I love the youthfulness and vibrancy of their rooms. We still have some stuff to do in Zi's room....with time....money and energy. :)

A while back I made 2 canvases for our main floor 1/2 bath. I wanted something bright and fun. I painted streaks of bold colors with acrylic paint. Then stenciled on the verse:  The Lord will fight for you. You need only be still. AMEN.

Here is it is hanging in the bathroom.

A close up of the hoop art. Simple. Makes my Zi Pie happy..end of story.

When driving to see Andy's fam last weekend I made some hoop art for the ladies. I used fabric from my friend Jody. It is adorable! I love it. I just stretched the fabric/burlap and cut a felt heart and hand stitched it.  Have you been making anything with hoop art?

I thought would throw this picture on too. Sister helping sister. Kiyah cut a tooth on New Years day and has been loving her teething toys. Zi has been my little helper. Bless her heart. Hope you are having a fabulous weekend.
