Our Kitchen Progress!

I thought it would be fun to show you our kitchen today! I love our kitchen! When we moved in our home in 2010, I was sooooooo excited to have a big kitchen. With my husband being a youth pastor, we entertain a lot! We both love hosting friends and family. Andy and I both love cooking! We have yet to paint our kitchen or anything. I can't get over how having two kids under the age of 3, over takes our life! I have dreams for our kitchen though.......Here are the before!

I am not one for stained wood. I love painted trim and cabinets. But I love how our cabinets are simple/mission style. I like how the stain is matte finish.

Here is our kitchen as of now.

I have changed the curtains and painted the chalkboard wall. I want to paint the walls soon with a pale yellow called "Bee wax" and change out the lights. Someday we want to put concrete countertops. I would like to put some glass doors on the cabinets to brighten it up.

It took me awhile to figure out what to do with our shelving above the cabinets. I have landed on the idea of collecting wire baskets. I like that it is functional and fun!

I have a love/hate relationship with our desk area! I love having it in the kitchen and use it all the time. But it often becomes the landing station for junk. clutter. and chaos. I am always tweaking it to keep it organized. The cabinets hold art supplies that we use the most. The office station is from Staples, Martha Stewart collection. I wrote about it here

I am so happy that we painted our walls with chalkboard paint! I posted about it here. It is used all the time! We added the IKEA white magnet boards for Zion and Zakiyah's, Melissa&Doug dolls and  ABC's.

The picture below is facing our dining room. I love have stainless steel appliances. Don't you think concrete counters will be heavenly!? Someday!!!!

I have cookbooks in a basket for fun!

I love my chalkboard decals on my canisters.

I love my mini Starbucks mugs with my Andy Warhol soup cans. They are resting on my window sill.

I love my vintage inspired fabric from Jody! I made these curtains.

When Andy and I got married, a friend of ours made this sign for us!

Love my mirrors. From TJ Maxx of course.

I love how calendars can be art! I got these on Etsy. I ordered two different sets. One for the kitchen and one for the studio. I used mini clothespins and twine.

I won this painting last year from Rochester Women's magazine. I think it goes well with my kitchen. fun. fresh. and warm.

We made this plate for Zion last year at a local pottery shop.

My mom is an amazing sewer and quilter. She made this table runner for me! I love it!!!! It is all fabric from the FabricShoppe. I got the balls at Target and the square bowl from Pottery Barn.

Kitchen sink essentials.

I am excited for the changes that will be made to make the kitchen more us! Everything takes time! But it is going to be so fun painting and customizing it for our needs. Do have any dreams for your kitchen?

Curtains in the Kitch

I recently got some curtains from my friend that she didn't want anymore. I, of course, gladly took them! I love re-gifting and blessing others with things we just don't want/need anymore.  I first mentioned these curtains here. But the length was just a little too short for me. The curtains are 84" in height, which is the standard size most places sell. But I like my window treatments to drag a bit on the floor. Here are some pictures of before I tweaked them.

I went to Target and picked up some cheap curtain hooks. They sell them in two sizes and I opted for the bigger ones. It was such a easy fix and upgrade. I think it looks a lot better. It definitely makes it look more casual, but I like that style more anyways.

Here is it with the curtains closed. I like how it drags a touch. I think the weight of the material is perfect for the Minnesota winter months. It adds the warmth to my kitchen that I was looking for.

Now I just want to PAINT these walls! The beige is driving me N-U-T-S!  I hope to paint the walls in the next weeks. Any ideas of colors I should do? I am thinking a celery/butter/pale yellow color. Nothing too crazy. I want bright and cheerful.

Organizin the Kitchen

I have been on a huge kick as of late. ORGANIZING. Maybe it is the cold weather that is coming, or just my first born type A side. It just makes me so happy to have a organized space. I have a big goal of going through each room in our house and organizing/purging/ and making it work for our family. So this week I started with our kitchen desk drawers. They were a hot mess to say the least. Between being busy and stuffing the drawers with whatev to having my 2 year old open them daily and pull stuff out. They have been neglected.

Here is a shot of my desk before I started. I have a camera, jar of pens, clipboards I made 2 years ago, magnetic board and a file that is a mess.

 My embarrassing drawers....so ridiclous.

I have the organizing systems somewhere tucked underneath all the mess.
I started with completely emptying out the drawers and starting over.

more before shots.

finally empty drawers.

Here is my AFTER! I love it! I went to Staples and bought the Martha Stewart organizing systems. I heart them. I love the vintage blue color. I still really want to paint my kitchen a pale yellow/pear color. We will see. So the organizer on the right is still in progress. the white file system is for our yearly papers/reciepts we need to keep. It is from The Container Store. My calendar is target. I kept 1 clipboard up for pix/papers.

a close up.

my goal is to put weekly papers/bills/mail in the bottom drawer so it is kept away until I get to it. I still want to add a stapler and some other items to this. But I must say it makes me happy walking by it everyday. It is the little things......that make this girl happy.

my center drawer with a new home for the clip boards. and I got the 3 vintage blue boxes from Staples too. I have one for business cards, one for gift cards and the third for Zion's stickers/tattoos.

Here are the drawers now all organized. I got my organizers at Target a couple years ago. They work great. I just re-organized them. It was time.....

I still want to get cord organizers. Next.....

When I was at Staples, I also purchased the amazing chalkboard stickers for jars/containers. These jars are on my kitchen counter....

Now with the pretty Martha labels. Bliss.

So if that wasn't enough I hit up my baking cupboard and pantry. Here are the before's....

This cabinet is to the right of the microwave. I cleared it out and got my labels out from Martha. I rearranged and tried to make more use of the space.

Here is after!  I love it. I used some organizing tools: labels and a tiered 3 step shelf on the bottom for the cans and spices.

the top is baking supplies: flour/sugar/flax seed/oatmeal etc.

the middle shelf is more random supplies: pudding/jello, chocolate, corn starch, vinegar etc.

The bottom shelf has the tiered shelf with canned goods/sprinkles/cupcake liners/seasoning. I also have salt/measuring cups etc.

Here are some pix of organizing the pantry. I love using my tupperwear and containers. I used my Martha labels on a lot of them as well.

Here are 2 shots of my laundry room. I just recently put a piggy bank in there. It is so nice to have it there for all the change that comes in.....ha. Why not, right?

next up...my desk area .....enjoy.
