LLW

Happy Lock Love Wednesday! Every Wednesday, I share a hair related post with y'all! Being a hairstylist + a mom, I found myself getting in a hair rut. It is so easy to lose inspiration with your daily styling routine! LLW helps me keep my "head in the game"! This week I am sharing with you some Before + Afters! Who doesn't like to see some transformations? I would love to have you join me below by linking up and showing off your hair! Otherwise, follow me on Instagram @talahairlife #locklovewednesday and #locklovewed

My 14 month old started rocking pig tails this week! YAH!

I got to color my sister, Cara's hair at Tala! She had a faded red (left) to start with. We colored her hair with a rich red/violet! I lightened her ends with two shades of copper/caramel. I love how it turned out! Talk about depth and shine! She is a natural red head (8 copper) so she can pull off any red tone.

Do you like it?

This is the gorgeous Mallorie! We lightened her hair (after on right) with a fun tone for fall/winter. I wanted to lift her color without going through a damaging process. It turned out to be a beautiful caramel/gold/copper color! I love it.

Oh Steph! I love doing your hair!!!!! We started out by chopping it 4 to 5 inches and I inverted the perimeter so the front was longer. I gave her copper/red highlights in her fringe, while painting a dark brown all over. She is lookin' good in the hood!

Danielle (my cousin) is in the process of growing out her hair! She has been apart of some fun hair shows and her hair has seen better days- health wise! So it was so fun to clean up her ends and freshen up her layers! She wanted a natural/low maintenence color/cut. I did a heavy weave foil with two colors! We went with a high lift natural blonde and a golden/warm honey brown! She looks so lovely!

Nothing too crazy- but this is my two GO-TO looks- high bun and air dry the natural wave/then curl in some texture. EASY.

I showed this before + after on insta. Humbling and to inspire y'all of what 10 minutes can do. I have sped up my morning routine since being a mom- I feel totally confident in my bare skin, but I really do love getting fancied up! And look at those brows- isn't it crazy how much of a difference filling in the brows does. amen.

Join me below!

Happy LLW

Dry Conditioner! Holler

Everyone knows that I love dry shampoo! But, have you tried dry conditioner? WOW!? Why not use both? They step up your "day off" days like mucho! I can't get over how I only wash my hair every 3-4 days now! PRAISE!

Dry Shampoo is for your mid-shaft to ends.
Think of it as perfume for your hair.
It gives it shine and texture.
It dirties up your hair fabulous.
It is great for curly hair!
I love the Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Conditioner.

Here is my hair with the product in. I let my hair air dry! After my hair was dry, I curled a few strands with my flat iron and finished by spraying my hair with dry conditioner. It dirtied up my hair wonderfully and gave it the shine and hold that I was looking for. I don't know about you, but my hair is extra dry in the winter months- aka- frizzy and lots of static going on. Scarfs and jackets don't help things- So dry conditioner will be your saving grace!

What do you think? Have you tried this product before? I sell this slice of heaven at Tala for $20! Let me know if you are interested- I will have a 20% off this week if you mention this post!

Happy Tuesday buddies!

I create

I decided to switch up some art in my home this week. Zion and I had a creative morning and wanted to paint over some old paintings in my living room!

Original- Mark Rathko wannabe. I painted over it with a cream to start over!

I love how its now more colorful and matches my house! What do you think? I am still working on another piece that I will share with you in the next week!

It's pretty abstract for me, but I am loving it!

What do you think? You like?

Happy Thursday!

LOCK LOVE WEDNESDAY

Every Wednesday, I post pix from the week in the studio or show off my hair locks with you! This is a great way to motivate yourself to get out of your hair rut and style that hair! Join me below and show off your locks! I am having fun showing you my Before + Afters from the studio this week!

Maggie had not colored her hair in months! I applied a rich brown to her base and distributed it through her ends. I painted in lighter caramels to give it a soft ombre! I curled her hair with a wand. She looks lovely!

This is my girl, Sylvie! She is a loyal FOILER- is that a word? She always gets foils and I talked her into painting the base and lifting it a champagne blonde. I LOVE IT! SHe looks bright and beautiful! I added in mocha low lights  as well. I curled her hair with a flat iron to funk it up a bit!

I got to rock out a fun asymmetrical cut on my buddy- Brittney! She is going to rock smooth and sleek on one side and curl and texture on the other side! I dirtied up her hair with taffy and dry shampoo! She is gorgeous! It is perfect for 2013- Go Brit!

I got to give my friend- Taylor, bangs last night! Zooey Deschanel was our inspiration for her fringe. The key was keeping them just below her eyebrows and texturizing them a bit to rock out the new look. Often time, I see too small of sections for fringe and Taylor was game to pull off the perfect new look! She looks gorgeous as always!

This is one of my beauties from the Gate Youth Group. I got to be the Hairstylist of Honor, and color her hair for the first time! I ombred it! I put in two different colors and painted in the caramel and high lift blonde on her mid shaft and ends! She looks soooooooo cute and confident! Love ya Hayley!

Please join me below and link up and show off your hot hair! Teach us a technique! HOLLER! Follow me on INSTAGRAM too. #locklovewed and #locklovewednesday

"Thankful" Frame A R T

I love the idea of November, being a month of celebrating being THANKFUL! I saw an idea similar to this frame in Better Homes & Gardens magazine, and knew that it would be perfect for our dining room!

I bought the 18x24 driftwood frame at Hobby Lobby. The cage wire is from Lowes. It is the easiest project for a afternoon (while the girls napped) :) I cut the wire to the according measurements. I was going to staple in the wire but the frame is too narrow for the staples. They were exposed on the front, so I just made it so it would sit perfectly in the frame. I still am going to use a super glue to secure the wire, but for now, I just have it snapped into place.

I hung it up next to a frame in our dining room! So everyday, in the month of November,  i ask Zion what she is thankful for and I write it down on random paper. I clip it on to the wire with mini clothespins.

I spy a cute 3 year old eating breakfast! :)

I like how it is personal and fits our family's style! It goes well with my lovely farm table too!

I plan to use the frame year round for other fun items too! I am thinking:  Advent, Things we LOVE for valentines, Birthday cards, flash cards etc. It should be fun! Do you have any ideas of what I could use it for? Please share in my comments! I am always up for ideas! It will be fun to have Zakiyah participate next year!

Today, I am thankful for my red robe and coffee! Last night, at bible study, we were discussing the Beautitudes and It is such a good reminder to be thankful for all circumstances. I choose to look at my life from God's perspective. Choosing to be thankful. Choosing to rise to the occasion. Choosing to be a day maker. Choosing to be CONTENT.

(Matthew 5: 3-12)
“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
“You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.
“You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.
“You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.
“You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
“You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.
10 “You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.
11-12 “Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble.

Happy Monday!
